I have lived near the ocean for most of my life, surfing, fishing, and diving. I developed a fascination with fish from an early age and it was only natural that I came to create glass versions of my favorite ones.
My fish are species-specific and as representational as I can make them.
They are perfect for collectors!
Fish
Tarpon - Megalops atlanticus - 6" x 5.5" x 2" - The great "Silver King", the most formidable game fish, hand sculpted in borosilicate glass and mounted on a clear glass stand.
Snook - Centropomus undecimalis - 5.5" x 6" x 2" - Sometimes called a "Robalo", this is a prized game fish in the Southeast. Sculpted in borosilicate glass and mounted on a clear glass stand.
Peppermint Angelfish - Centropyge boylei - This beautiful little fish is found in the central South Pacific Ocean and is native to the Cook Islands. It is characterized by its brilliant orange-red and white vertical bands. This one is slightly larger than life size. Created out of borosilicate glass by Robert Mickelsen. About 5" x 4" x 2"
Opah (Moonfish) - Lampris australensis (or possibly megalopsis). 4.5" - 7" - 2". The Opah is the only warm-blooded bony fish and lives and hunts in very deep water. I love the brilliant colors and unusual shape of this fish. Created from borosilicate glass by Robert Mickelsen and mounted on a clear glass base.
Black Tang - Zebrasoma rostratum - This is a hand sculpted replica of a Black Tang mounted on a clear glass base. It is 7" x 4.5" x 2".
This is a handmade glass sculpture of a Forceps-nose Butterflyfish (Forcipiger flavissimus). The famous hawaiian name for this fish is "Lauwiliwilinukunukuoi'oi", which means "like the leaf of the lauwili tree with a nose like a bird". This piece is mounted on a clear base and stands 6" x 4.5" x 2".
Glider FLying Fish - Cheilopogon atrisignis - 8" x 7" x 10" (wingspan). This is one of 64 different species of flying fish. This one is common in the Pacific Ocean and often features bright pink speckled wings. Made with borosilicate glass by Robert Mickelsen
This is a glass sculpture of an Achilles Tang (Acanthurus achilles). This striking black and orange fish is native to the Pacific Ocean. It is mounted on a clear glass base and stands about 6" x 5" x 2".
